Cultural Activities

In Maison de l'Inde the cultural activities are organised by the administration, the Residents' committee or by private associations promoting Indian culture and draw packed audiences in the "Salle Indira Gandhi"

Throughout the year the Maison organises various cultural activities under the initiative of the Director Mr Sanyal and the Cultural Attaché Mrs Sanyal. Weekly classes in Hindi, Yoga, Bharatnatyam dance and Carnatic music are conducted as well. Seminars and workshops on contemporary socio-economic issues are also organised.

Regular annual activities include:
The beginning of the year welcome cocktail by the director to all the residents.
The four day long autumn festival to pay hommage to the Goddess Durga. Rituals and puja are performed in the mornings and the evenings are reserved for cultural programmes which are characterised by their multicultural and multireligious variety.
Diwali is celebrated every year. The programme starts with cultural events and fireworks followed by a light but delicious Indian refershment.
The Maison celebrates International Children's Day in December.
The Maison celebrates 'Id-ul-Fitr' and organises "Iftar" during the Ramadan.
During Christmas the House is decorated with lights and Christmas decorations.
International Students day is celebrated on the occasion of Saraswati Puja to pay hommage to the Goddess of learning.
Holi, the Spring Festival is celebrated in the month of March or April.
A festival is also organised by the Maison de l'Inde during the "Fête de la Cité" in the month of May.
In the month of
June it celebrates the "Fête de la musique".

On the 26th of January the residents of the maison celebrate the Republic Day of India. After a flag hoisting ceremony early in the morning, some of the residents go to the Indian Embassy to attend the ceremony there.



On the 15th of August, the Maison pays hommage to the Indian Tricolor on the occasion of the Indian Independence Day. After the ceremony some residents go to the Indian Embassy to attend the celebration there.

The Residents' committee is comprised of the President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Computer Room Incharge, Library Incharge and Sports Incharge

Parties like these are organised by the Residents' committee

The committee, during its lifespan of one year organises a year-ending party and some more parties. During the summer a on-the-house barbeque is also organised. The proceeds from these parties are used to purchase equipment to improve living and entertainment facilities for the residents.


Besides these regular activities the committee also helps the maison organise different cultural activities that take place all the year long.

The Residents' committee is elected every year before the 7th of november. The candidates are supposed to give in their names two weeks before the election date. Election is done through a secret ballot and under the supervision of the administration.
